For a period of almost 400 years, in the days when Spain was ruled by the Moors, the believers in Judaism, Christianity and Islam lived together in relative peace. On the surface there were tensions but at the root there was a deep understanding of the links between the faiths. This “convivencia” has permeated esoteric teaching to the present day.
Scholarship and mysticism thrived in Spanish towns such as Toledo, Cordoba and Granada as students and teachers in all three disciplines helped each other to learn, translate and understand ancient teachings.
La Convivencia ended when Christianity, under Ferdinand and Isabella, unified Spain and began the Inquisition that not only destroyed lives but also the trust between the “People of the Book”, as the followers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam are known.
This website supports a return to the principles of La Convivencia. We are group of people working together to learn and teach the mysteries of Divinity, life and the Universe. We are Jews, Christians and Muslims but also Buddhists, Hindus and believers in many other forms of faith. We have come together to engage in the Work of Unification in order to understand that each person’s path is unique and valid and that peace comes from the roots of belief rather than the form that centuries of crystallisation may create.
Our inspiration comes from the origins of the Judaic mystical system known as Kabbalah, from Sufism and from esoteric Christianity. All of these systems agree with each other at the root. We use the structures of The Tree of Life and Jacob’s Ladder—metaphorical design templates of humanity and the Universe—and we offer articles, workshops, seminars and conferences all over the world to promote the aim of peace and understanding.
